movie Review: star trek again?

i really love the details on this film. from the vibrating floor bass everytime the enterprise appears. the scene where the lady screams are drowned out in space. so beautiful. kirk's rebellious nature in getting rid of the evidence. so cool! sulu and scotty! so funny! spock's presence! so awesome! Spock is the coolest douche i'll ever know. i rightfully relieve myself of that status. i even have a spock version of me on my facebook now. so awesome.

second times the charm. i really got to listen to every word of the dialog this time. where i missed the first time, hell no m i gonna miss it the second time. caught it with my girl but i guess, it just didnt take to her. she couldnt deny the movie was awesome. the cast, the special effects, the cgi, the alternate reality creating plot. but still, she just couldnt give it the 10 stars it so rightfully deserves. all she had to offer was an average 7.8. BAH!

i ve been hearing lotsa people boycotting this film citing reasons such as its a "star" film. like seriously, its a great film. its a reboot. why should you be concerned? go out there and catch it. dont catch it if 1) you are a foreigner whose main language isnt english, 2) are cheena enough to go catch this since you are already at the cinema and its either this or fireball. and the reviews for fireball are lamer than the title.

there was this cheena dude who was like sms-ing throughout the movie. so distracting. he looked so stoned. i guess he just didnt have a freaking clue as to why space ships can suddenly disappear into the stars with a whoosh! what a prick!

caught it at cathay once more at a decent size theatre. and i cried again while watching the starting scene where the dad says i love you just before he make like a canonball and explodes into a million pieces. so sad. this film is that good.

so basically, if you havent catch this, go do so. its cinema run is dying. there was only three timeslots at cathay today. and next week will definitely be flooded with monsters vs aliens and terminator ( which reviews all suck and is such a huge disappointment for me). if you have, go catch it again if you can. its just 6 bucks on a weekday with the ever handy, NEBO card. go sign up if you havent. no linking here as its not comic related.

live long and suck it!

movie Review: trekking the stars and beyond

this is the best thing to come out for 2009! comics have two main sub groups: suoerheroes, and sci-fi. and if dark knight is the standard for the superhero genre. Star trek is most definitely the one for sci-fi fans.

i dont care who you are and what your preferences are. Be it a longtime trekkie, or a newbie. a star wars die hard or someone who just doesnt give a rats ass about anything to do with space and movies with the words: stars / galactica / babylon. this shit is one to catch!

awesome performances by the entire cast! there was hardly a flaw in the entire movie. i just merely found saturn to be kinda fake. but maybe thats how saturn is really supposed to look like. i mean, have you seen saturn from that angle? if you have, you probably have no idea where to draw the line between your world of unicorns and the world of ERP. basic gist of the plot is about time travel and the space-time continuum. and i too was concerned about whether i would make heads or tails of JJ's latest. but basically, you have the whole movie revolving around this so you pretty much wont get lost.

things i LOVEEEE: the details that goes into the direction, the lens flare and stuff. the cast: harold as sulu, simon pegg as the hilarious scotty. the awesome dialog. the references to the original tv series. so beautiful! i so wanna watch this again!

i caught this one over at the grand cathay over the weekend. and it was a grand experience for me and me maties. seeing the curtains part was a delicious appetizer before getting the main course.

and now we wait for transformers 2 and terminator 4.

Movie Review: a mutant pool, deadpool?

so many corny lines in the movie on how they try to justify the codenames for the characters. caught this one yesterday over at the plaza sing. its kinda stinky that the entire cathay organisation doesnt screen this. so cant catch this bugger at the cathay, if u didnt know by now, my fav cinema.

Wolverine origins is a cut n paste job on years developing the character. even the wolverine kid and the logan as a nickname was only recently written cause wolverine was always meant to have a mysterious past. and you can see Frank Miller's run on the character with the line "i m the best at what i do. but what i do isnt very nice". sucky thing is now that sabretooth is his brother. and how can they say it ties nicely with the other x men movies when suddenly the sabretooth in the x men movie is nothing more than a douche? sure gavin hood is an award winning director picked by hugh jackman. but the lack of detail also kinda pissed me off. like, the part where weapon XI laser rips out the entire nuclear reactor they are standing on, the blast somwhow fails to penetrate through the others though it makes contact. and i didnt like emma frost. shes the hottie who is the white queen and replaces jean grey's spot in cyclops heart. so why is she so ugly? i like the little tidbit that there was a minor team up between her and cyclops. but the diamond effect is so fugly!

deadpool was hilarious and awesome is what ever short time he had on screen. notice how i said deadpool and not weapon XI bullshit. it started out okay and it all went to hell towards the end. wolverine or x men 3? i m not sure which is better. on 1 hand you have brett ratner and on the other, you have this pile of action crap. and yes, i saw all the glitchy scenes which you have claws on wolverine's hand on one scene and in the next, its gone. LOL! it really is sucky. and looks like my wait for the paying cgi enhanced version is worth it afterall. nevertheless, i just hope that the next wolverine sequel (which is highly possible) wil be much better without the messy display of random mutants.

oh yeah, and theres two version of endings after the movie. in between the credits, you get wiliam stryker following silverfox's command. and WAIT till after the credits roll for: Wolverine in a Jap Bar! or Deadpool stil alive and TALKING! wahahah! classic. too bad i got to see the wolverine version. Seeing deadpool on the big screen is deffinitely so much better. and i m not sure if singapore's other theatres show the deadpool version and i m not looking forward to enduring another 2 hours just to check. so heres the bad qulaity video of the deadpool ending:

and after THIS, it has been confirmed!
Deadpool will be getting his own movie! thats the best thing to come out from this movie i guess.

Marvel.com has this to say:

he newly confirmed Deadpool film, which would be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, has Ryan Reynolds slated to star and would be a complete exploration of the character - his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth, and more!

movie review: Friday the 13th on Sat the 25th

hah! really bad title for the post. but best i could think of in regard to my busy schedule. so i caught this little movie over the weekend over hearing the great reviews and such. and i sure enjoyed peeing myself dry.

its generally an alright movie. at times a little too predictable and cliche. and not watching the original friday the 13th movies, i dont know exactly how accurately jason was potrayed here. but this new jason sure packs a mean retardation! theres plenty of kills and ingenius ways to kill and not to mention the best treat for all horror fans: BOOBIES!

jason is a retarded kid who comes back to life after his mom, who went on a murdering spree to kill those she felt was responsible for her son's death, was killed. yup, that whole sentence by right, just doesnt make sense. however, i shall be annoying and say, by left, its the actual origin of our favourite jason voorhees. and so he just continues what he mother had set out to do and he does it in style!

the downside:
I was pretty much buggered to no end with questions: why jason cant die? wtf is he? however at least, unlike the knowing, they didnt just fucking whack it and made it out to be such that he was a fucking alien! it pretty much was left ambiguous and i think its better that way. but the ending was a no brainer. and why should the freaking lead stay till dawnbreak to dump the bastard in the sodding river? the bastard just killed a whole lotta people and i would get the f out of there at the first chance i get. or at the very least, just call the cops. so i guess it was kinda sloppy here and there.

the upside:
like previously mentioned, there plenty kills even before the title sequece is done. and plenty more once the movie gets going! major boobage is included and basically, horror fans will get their kicks. drag your pussy friends along and watch them cower under anything they can find and yank it away from them when jason appears!
NICE!

Movie Review: Goed to DMC

Detroit Metal City

i guess we can again use what we learnt from deathnote, the manga is always better than the anime which is better than the movie. so if u have either read the manga or watched the anime, time to lower some standards. anyways, you should just watch this without having any standards. and you ll have a fun time.

Detroit Metal City (whose name is based on KISS's detroit rock city), is story of shy kid, Negishi, a pop singer wannabe leading a double life as lead black metal singer, johannes krauser in the Black Metal Band, DMC! he hates what he has become. but yet DMC rises to fame as tokyo's powerhouse in the music industry.

the story is a little predictable. but funny dialog and live action impersonation of anime stereotypes are hilarious. Krauser's songs are a must have and shall be on my itunes soon enough. the acting is a solid A and Ken'ichi Matsuyama does an incredible job potraying BOTH Krauser and Negishi. gene simmons makes an appearance as jack ill dark and it's AWESOME to see him on the big screen, though he does not do the flicking tongue! aww....

DMC, Jack Ill Dark, Aikawa, Crazy Bitch Boss

things i didnt like: the bands lack of interaction. the short run time. only golden village is showing it (and stupid west mall). and the phrase "no music. no dream". fuck that!

Movie Review: Blue Harvest for a blue monday

Blue Harvest is the fake title for Star Wars VI when it was in production. and Family Guy used the infamous title as a nod to all star wars fan. although this is merely a longish episode, it has its own dvd and bonus features. so i guess it warrants as a movie.

it tells the tale of Luke (played by Chris) meeting up with Han Solo (played by Peter) to rescue Leia (played by Lois) from darth vader (played by stewie). jokes are in abundance. and theres never a dull moment including the legendary lightsaber erection.

the force is weak!

for "family guy vs american dad" nazis, theres even a guest appearance by ROGER! this was where he prolly was before getting captured by area 51.

the cgi used and the level of detail was incredible and all the 3d work was awesome and the fact that the original score was used was incredibly awesome. and i definitely need to work on my vocabulary.

things i didnt like: the fact that yoda couldnt get thrown in somewhere. chewbrian really didnt play an active role. its short time span.

who would like it: star wars fans, aliens and george lucas.

movie review: Wonderful Wonder Woman

So i just caught Wonder Woman, the animated movie, and its an origin story again. but before you get put off over DC lack of original stories to release (afterall, we are expecting a live action WW film in the next few years), this is easily the best animated origin story by far. the art is great and i underestimated the action scenes, i mean, have u seen a cartoon where a woman cracks a dragon's head?!

story starts with Hippolyta ending a war leading to Themyscira be founded and then wonderwoman was recovered suffocating from mud and a freak lightning. a full synopsis provided by the more free-er than me folks at wikipedia.

lotsa kills and several unexpected scenes/dialog to keep the regular animation fans interested enough to keep their wangs in till the end of the movie.

and theres even a nudie scene of girlies bathing!

ah, now then you'll watch...

things me no like: lack of spinning costume change, a wee bit cliche at times and DC's trademark empty city battleground.

lesson learnt: cartoon arent just for kids anymore!

imdb currently have it at 7.1 stars and i m gonna have to agree and give it a

movie review: watching the watchmen

i have hoped to start this blog of sorts sometime in the not so distant future, however, viewing the awesome spectacle known as Watchmen, i simply could not resist myself from spewing my comments all over the internet.

first off, i shall blabber off about the movie: it was dialogue reliant, not to say that other films chit chat isnt important, the details was in the words, and if you didnt strain to really hear the words or have an arse sitting next to you, asking you if rorschach's superpower was to change his face, you would be lost at times. so just do wad i did and wave a pointed finger in the buggers face and lean forward to show that though you're being a dick for doing so, he's a bigger dick for talking in the cinema.

speaking of dicks, this may be a spoiler of sorts. but if u actually bump into my site, you're prolly googling watchmen so u are expected to have already seen the movie. anyhu, Dr Manhattan was like super nudist. and the cropping of the film's camera made sure we were fully aware of his personal preference. and i was really expecting to see some Ts popping, especially with Akerman's big top reveal in the "heartbreak kid". but i was really disappointed when a mere silhouette was provided to satisfy the raging hormones of the average fanboy.
circled for emphasis

seeing as to how you can get more reliable movie opinions from sites such as rottentomatoes, or bla, i m just gonna rant on my movie experience for now. first of all, this is to me, the biggest movie of the year! i get erections watching the trailers before other movies. sure i've seen it countless times online, but having it enlarge in full HD glory where the range of your eyes simply could not shut out the visuals unless u turned ur head away, the sheer awesomeness of it gave me goose-bumps and sometimes my pants got a little wet (prolly cos the coke's sweat dripped.. but thats nt important).

entering the cinema,  just got blown away by amazing trailers of Transformer2, Terminator4, StarTrek! sure, i've seen em online. but just seeing them with friends is a different matter altogether! and commercials weren't shying away too. there was like a good 20 mins of random shit tossed together, long enough for me to drink half of my drink, realised its a three hour show, get off to take a piss, realize i was looking good in the mirror and skip down to my seat to where my fag friend was covering his eyes since the thai trailer, "coming soon" was on. then the movie starts.

the shit starts with an incredible opening sequence retelling the tales of the minutemen, a superhero group, similar to the Avengers or JLA, who was a generation before the watchmen. then it drives straight to the intense scene of the comedian getting murdered (there, that scene where the window shatters cos some guy got thrown out lo). and everything else being just sheer awesomeness that will leave you wanting for the movie never to end!

and now the shitty part! i was in one cinema with another of my friend in the other cinema, cos he bought his ticket late, bla bla bla.. well, my cinema wasn't full, which ticked me off to a certain extent. (dark knight was full of cheena poks entering the cinema confusing themselves and enduring the three hours so they can tell their other cheena friends that they saw the dark knight and its damn good le! solid!) but it was still bearable. but my friend over at the other cinema had to endure SEVERAL people leaving their seats at the scene where Dr Manhatten leaves Earth. WHATHEFLUB?! where the f did they get the balls to leave the cinema? maybe their ah lian gfs finally realized that mr da long's long(dragon) wasn't the biggest thing they could get after comparing to Dr M. and mr da long just have to remind missy ah lian that it was too bad for them in the nearest toilet! BAH! how can this even happen? was it that bad to endure? how bout trying ghosts rapping in hokkien? perhaps they could relate more to that.

it was very even more disheartening to see that for today's lifestyle section in the straits times had bad reviews for the watchmen. wanna know the even better part. it was feature on the front page of that section. i dont have a copy with me but i glance through it and it was saying that it wasnt being true to telling the message that the original graphic novel had. and how the original shaped superheroes and yadayadayada! and wanna know the better part? Outta 5, 2 FUCKING STARS! if the number 2 could be caps, it would be! on a newspaper that singaporeans take seriously, you give a shitty 2 star rating on the anticipated film of like forever for comic geeks. whatheflubbbbbbberrriouciouslllyyy??!?!

i quote filmschoolrejects.com when i say that it will be the greatest vision of the watchmen ever made for screen. all this hype about how the watchmen can never be made into a movie and it has all been flushed away thanks to mr snyder. and i understand he emitted several things and added several things to make the entire movie experience an enjoyable one. there are alot of things that needed to stay true to the book and i fully appreciated that mr snyder let them be and i never felt shortchanged after the credits rolled. (except for the jailbreak scence, which was my fav in the book. i felt it should have been much more darker and more gore-y)

on a side note, Rorschach had hair! like in the book! cos i never saw jackie earle haley with any real (by real, i mean long enough to consider it hair) hair. so tada, big pleasant surprise for me.
jackie earle haley as Walter Kovacs

here he is, with my enhanced photoshopping skills, showing u how a sample of him with hair

on another side note, zack snyder really love his details, and google the eastereggs for the watchmen film, theres plenty that will make you look out for. examples include, James Jean Art! and when Ozy files are open, they reveal a folder entitled "boys".
HAH! -raises eyebrows repeatedly and suggestively-
also, My Chem Romance plays their cover of "desolation row" at the end credits. check out their music video if you will.

to wrap things up,
i give the film an

please note, that this is totally my opinion as a comic book fan who enjoyed the original literature a shy 4 years ago after getting pissed that all the batman books were done reading in the library and that yellow book is taunting me with that eerie smile. i definitely look forward seeing the film again and hopefully, it will be in my fav cinema, the grand cathay! yup, thats the one where the curtains part!
